The Roach-Latin-Rutilus Rutilus

The Roach is distributed throughout the British Isles living in still and running water's and is one of the most popular fish for course anglers.

The Roach is sometimes confused with the Rudd; although similar, the roach has a dorsal fin above the pelvis and equal length jaws.

Roach feed on a mixed diet of shrimp, snails, fly larvae and some algae. Many anglers use bread, seeds or maggots and occasionally small berries and red worms can be used to good effect.

Roach can grow to over 4lbs, but a catch weighing in at 2lb is said to be a specimen.
